Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1/2 small yellow onion, finely diced
- 1/2 green bell pepper, finely diced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 12 pack of slider rolls (such as Hawaiian rolls)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray or a little bit of butter to ensure the sliders don’t stick to the bottom.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef, diced onion, and diced green pepper. Cook until the beef is fully browned and the vegetables are soft. Drain any excess grease from the skillet to keep the sliders from becoming oily.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low. Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and onion powder. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 to 7 minutes until the sauce has thickened and the flavors are well combined.
- Using a long serrated knife, slice the entire slab of slider rolls in half horizontally. Place the bottom half of the rolls into the prepared baking dish.
- Spread the Sloppy Joe meat mixture evenly over the bottom half of the rolls. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top of the meat. Place the top half of the rolls back onto the cheese layer.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, garlic powder, grated Parmesan cheese, and dried parsley. Use a pastry brush to coat the tops of the slider rolls generously with this garlic butter mixture.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 10 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the tops of the buns are golden brown and toasted.
